Studio Exercise - January 2025
This project reimagines a classical façade for the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, addressing its long-standing unfinished front. Designs were developed with Renaissance architects as precedent and mentors; this specific design was guided by Giacomo della Porta.
Taking inspiration from the Church of the Gesu and the Church of Santa Maria in Via, These esquisse sketches show some of the ideas of push and pull that the renaissance had mastered.
Ultimately I continued my study of the ideas from the lower left option and bottom center. From these sketches I created Revit models to further understand their depth and proportions.
Form these Revit models, further refinements were made and the design that closer related to the Church of the Gesu was pursued.
Final Analytique
Printed from selected views in Revit and then additional details added digitally through Procreate. Experimented with duochrome watercolor style.
